About

Welcome to ivarzantinge.com, the personal website of Ivar Zantinge. Below you’ll find an overview of the most frequently asked questions.

ivarzantinge.com

What kind of website is this?
This blog represents the Zeitgeist filtered by me. It’s my personal scribbling-pad and a place to dump observations from my off- and online life. I have been blogging my life and the web for the past 8 years, 0 months & 19 day(s). In this time I have written 1191 posts, consisting of 78,734 words.

What are all these pages? Please help!
This website has a pretty self-explanatory structure, IMHO. Besides the blog, there is a page with the blog archives. The underlying (about) page provides you with the background of this blog and its blogger. The currently page describes the current status of my life. Finally, you can use the contact page to send me an email.

Kapow! Wam! Sok! Your site looks crappy!
That’s probably because your browser does not comply with web standards OR because this site does not validate (XHTML and CSS). Anyway, this site looks brilliant in Firefox, which you should be using anyway.

What are those funny illegible scribblings in your archives?
It’s called Dutch. It’s a West Germanic language spoken by around 22 million people, mainly in the Netherlands and Belgium. I used to write in my native language on the zantinge.org domain. However, with the launch of ivarzantinge.com in 2006, I have decided to write mainly in English from that moment on to broaden my perspective -and my audience. I imported all those old Dutch posts on this website for the sake of having a coherent online archive of the things I have blogged in the past. Please forgive me in advance for all my grammatical and linguistic mistakes, English is not my native language.

Who is that guy Ivar? Where does he live? What does he eat?
I was born in 1973 in Leiderdorp, Kingdom of The Netherlands. I grew up in Katwijk, a coastal town in the west of The Netherlands. I studied Media & Journalism at the University of Utrecht and Public Management at the University of The Hague. I currently live in The Hague. Ivar is a Norwegian name and it means something like ‘warrior with a wooden bow‘ (sic!).

I love the all good stuff life has to offer. I’m a sucker for well-designed stuff, coffee and Asian & Italian food. I don’t do butter, mussels, crayfish, mushrooms and other fungi. The Economist is my favorite read. I know the world would be a better place without (the music of) Celine Dion, Shania Twain and Lord of the Dance.

What do you do for fun?
I have played the bass since I was 16. A few years ago I founded the Rare Groove Orchestra (RGO) with three of my friends. RGO plays its very own special blend of Hammond Funk. We have released our first record in 2007. Buy it online, or on iTunes.

I love to travel with my girlfriend Daniëlle. We have seen quite some places together. My favorite cities are Copenhagen, New York City, Sydney, Los Angeles and Rome. My favorite countries are Australia and Thailand. Although I wouldn’t say the US is my favorite country, I just love California!

For the sake of staying in shape, I (try to) run and pump iron a few times a week.

And then there’s this damn blog!

What kind of music are you into?
I have an extremely eclectic style, ranging from jazz, funk and soul to indie, garage rock and classical music. Now and then, I’ll write a little about the stuff I’m spinning. The last 5 songs I played in iTunes are constantly updated on the currently page.

What do you do for a living?
I’m a marketing & business development geek with over 10 years of (executive) experience in the telecommunications and Internet industry. Currently I’m working for TomTom, a leading provider of personal navigation products and services. For other work-related stuff, please visit my online resume at LinkedIn.

I think I love you. Can we meet up?
No can do. Next question.

If we can’t meet, at least can I buy you a gift?
Now there’s a great idea! If you want to buy me a gift, please check out my Amazon Wish List. Thanks!
